Wise has warned some of its customers about a data breach at Evolve Bank & Trust, a bank they collaborated with from 2020 until 2023.

Evolve Bank & Trust, which provided USD account details for Wise customers, has experienced a data breach that may have exposed personal information.

Wise has assured its customers that they will be contacted directly if their data is potentially compromised.

Details of the Breach and Wise’s Response

To facilitate the provision of USD account details, Evolve Bank & Trust held identifying information such as names, addresses, dates of birth, contact details, Social Security Numbers (SSN) or Employer Identification Numbers (EIN) for US customers, and other identity document numbers for non-US customers.

While Evolve has not yet confirmed the specific data impacted, Wise is actively investigating the situation to ensure customer safety.

Wise has clarified that a different bank provides its current USD account details, and its systems remain unaffected by this breach.

Customers can continue to use their Wise accounts, USD account details, and Wise cards without concern, as their credentials, card numbers, and PINs are secure.

Steps for Customers to Protect Themselves

Wise has advised customers to be vigilant against potential phishing attempts.

They have emphasized that Wise will never ask customers to log in to their accounts, change their passwords to specific words or phrases, provide 2-step verification codes, or move money to specified accounts.

Customers should be cautious of suspicious calls, texts, or emails requesting sensitive information.

Wise recommends additional steps for US-based customers such as understanding identity theft prevention, reporting suspected identity theft to the Federal Trade Commission, and placing a free fraud alert on their credit files with major credit bureaus like Equifax, Experian, or TransUnion.

This alert will notify creditors to contact customers before opening new accounts or changing existing ones.

Wise remains committed to keeping customer information and money safe, and they continue to store data securely.

Customers are encouraged to stay informed and take necessary precautions to protect their personal information.
