Microsoft has released the out-of-band update KB5121767 for Windows 11 to resolve a system performance and compatibility issue affecting a limited number of Dell devices.

The update addresses issues with the Intel Innovation Platform Framework (Intel IPF) driver following recent Windows updates.

Released on July 18, 2026, KB5121767 applies to Windows 11 versions 25H2 and 24H2. After installation, affected systems will move to OS Builds 26200.8894 and 26100.8894.

The out-of-band, or OOB, update is cumulative and includes all improvements delivered in previous Windows security and non-security releases. Microsoft issued the package to provide an additional targeted fix for devices affected by the Intel IPF driver issue.

According to Microsoft, the bug could cause unexpected changes in system performance, power consumption, and overall device behavior.

On affected Dell systems, users may experience issues with power management, charging, thermal controls, USB-C peripherals, and system responsiveness.

The issue affected a limited number of Dell devices after the July 2026 security update, KB5101650. Microsoft had temporarily prevented those systems from receiving the update while it investigated the compatibility problem.

With KB5121767, Microsoft has removed the update block for affected Dell devices. Systems impacted by the Intel IPF issue can now install the OOB package and receive the latest Windows servicing updates.

Intel Innovation Platform Framework drivers help Windows coordinate hardware-level power, thermal, and performance policies. A compatibility issue involving these components can affect battery behavior, CPU performance, external displays, USB-C docks, charging hardware, and connected accessories.

Microsoft said KB5121767 is recommended only for devices affected by the issue. Users and organizations that have not experienced abnormal power, performance, or USB-C behavior do not need to manually install the update.

The update also includes servicing stack update KB5120102, which moves the servicing stack to Build 26100.8872. Servicing stack updates are designed to improve Windows Update reliability and help cumulative updates install correctly.

In addition, KB5121767 updates Windows AI components to version 1.2605.856.0. The updated components include Image Search, Content Extraction, Semantic Analysis, and Settings Model.

Users who enabled the “Get the latest updates as soon as they’re available” setting in Windows Update should receive the OOB update automatically. Others can manually install it by opening Settings, selecting Windows Update, and clicking Download & install.

Enterprise administrators can also obtain KB5121767 through supported business deployment channels, including Windows Server Update Services and the Microsoft Update Catalog. Organizations should test the update on affected Dell models before wider deployment.

Microsoft has not described the issue as a security vulnerability or provided evidence of exploitation. However, IT teams should prioritize the update where Dell endpoints show USB-C charging, thermal, power, or performance problems following recent Windows updates.
