The company has notified affected individuals and is offering them a complimentary one-year membership to Equifax’s credit monitoring services. This service includes identity theft detection and resolution to help mitigate potential risks.

Avis has also reported the breach to relevant authorities, including the Maine Attorney General’s Office, and has begun notifying other state attorneys general as required by law.

The company is actively working to enhance its security measures and prevent future incidents, though it has not disclosed specific details about the nature of the cyberattack.

This breach is part of a troubling trend of cyberattacks targeting the automotive and rental industries.
