Elon Musk, who owns the social media platform X (which used to be called Twitter), said that the platform was hit by a massive Distributed Denial-of-Service (DDoS) attack. This happened at the same time as a planned live interview with former President Donald Trump.

The attack aimed to disrupt X’s services by overwhelming it with internet traffic, causing significant access issues for users attempting to join the live conversation.

The interview, touted as the “interview of the century” by Trump’s campaign, was set to begin at 8 PM Eastern Time on X Spaces. However, users reported seeing a message stating “Details not available,” and many were unable to access the event, prompting the hashtag “Crashed” to trend on the platform.

Musk confirmed the attack on X, stating, “There appears to be a massive DDoS attack on 𝕏. Working on shutting it down. Worst case, we will proceed with a smaller number of live listeners and post the conversation later”.

Despite the technical difficulties, Musk announced that the interview would proceed with a reduced number of live listeners at 8:30 PM ET, with plans to release the unedited audio immediately afterward.

This approach mirrors previous technical issues experienced on the platform, such as during Florida Governor Ron DeSantis’s campaign launch, which also faced server-related challenges.

The disruption comes at a critical time for Trump, who is seeking to regain momentum in the presidential race against Democratic rival Kamala Harris. The unscripted interview was expected to cover a wide range of topics, providing Trump an opportunity to re-engage with his base on the platform where he was once a dominant presence.

The DDoS attack on X, which coincided with the scheduled interview between Elon Musk and Donald Trump, lasted approximately 40 minutes. The interview was set to begin at 8 PM Eastern Time but was delayed due to the attack, with the live stream eventually starting 40 minutes late

During this period, users experienced significant difficulties accessing the platform, leading to widespread technical issues and preventing many from joining the live conversation
